It was released on June 20, 2022, through Parkwood and Columbia, as the lead single from BeyoncĂ©'s upcoming seventh studio album Renaissance (2022). Its lyrics were written by BeyoncĂ© and Jay-Z with additional lyrics written by Big Freedia due to the sample of Big Freedia's 2014 song "Explode". Its musical composition was done by Tricky Stewart and The-Dream, with additional credits given to Adam Pigott, Allen George and Fred McFarlane due to Adamâs involvment in producing âExplodeâ and George and McFarlaneâs production in "Show Me Love" by Robin S., respectively. "Break My Soul" prominently draws from 1990s house.
